Our Bursary Scheme

Our bursary scheme is open to all singing leaders wanting to attend an extended conducting course who can demonstrate a commitment to leading youth singing (where the majority of singers are under the age of 18).

How much is a bursary worth?

  • Bursaries of 50% of a course cost are available for conductors aged 18 - 25
  • Bursaries of 30% are available for those over the age of 25

Who can apply?

Applicants for bursaries must already be members of abcd and must also commit to additional years of full-price membership following the award of a bursary - 2 years for those receiving a 50% bursary and 1 year for those receiving a 30% bursary. It is anticipated that this be the year following their bursary award, however, where a member is a Young Conductor or Student member, this can be deferred for up to two years.

In addition to the application form, bursaries must be supported by a letter of recommendation. This letter should be from someone who knows the applicant in a professional capacity, and verify either their experience of working with young singers, or demonstrate the applicant's commitment to working with young singers if they have not already had the opportunity to do.

These bursaries apply solely to extended courses on our national training programme, and are not available for one-day or regional events, or for our Get Them Singing, Keep Them Singing training (this is separately subsidised). There are a limited number of bursary application places available per course, so get your applications in as soon as possible for your chosen course. Applications must be made in advance of a course starting.
