Musical Director

South West

Organisation: Exeter Festival Chorus

Founded in 1993, Exeter Festival Chorus has built a reputation as one of the liveliest and most adventurous choirs in the South West. After more than 20 years of inspirational leadership, Nigel Perrin, the current Music Director, has decided that the time has come to pass on the baton.

EFC is an auditioned choir of around 65 members who currently meet on a Wednesday evening in Exeter during term time from 7.15 to 9.30pm. In normal times we stage three to four concerts a year in Devon (including concerts in Exeter Cathedral) and sometimes further afield,as well as a popular Exeter-based annual choral workshop.

We love to present music covering a great variety of musical genres and periods; we revisit standard works within the choral repertoire and explore new challenges from contemporary composers. We like to be stretched both musically and technically and, above all, we strive to set ourselves the highest standards.

We are seeking a dynamic choral director who has the vision and creative flair to take us forward, building on our distinct qualities and exploring new possibilities in these challenging times. The successful candidate will have experience of working with a top amateur choir, and of conducting a professional orchestra and soloists; they will have a broad knowledge of the choral repertoire and the vision to compile innovative programmes. Within EFC's charitable status we are expected to contribute to the development of choral music in the region and the music director will have a role in delivering this responsibility. They will work with a committee and répétiteur, be encouraging, have excellent communication skills and a clear directing style, and foster a creative and positive environment in weekly rehearsals.
